Do you have any knowledge about the property testing of silicone rubber products?

Release time:2026-07-13

The quality of a silicone rubber product is not only determined by its appearance and size, but also by a very important indicator - whether the physical properties of the product meet the design requirements. In this issue, Yongyong Silicone Rubber will introduce to you some basic and common physical property tests for the commonly used silicone rubber products.

In fact, the physical properties of silicone rubber products are largely determined by the materials used in the products. Once a product is manufactured, its own physical properties are basically fixed. Therefore, in many cases, we will conduct a standard experimental sample of the raw materials before production to perform relevant tests.

The first aging test involves various types of aging experiments, such as temperature aging, sunlight irradiation aging, loading aging, etc. For silicone rubber products, the most commonly used method is temperature aging, which is conducted in an aging test chamber. The high-temperature aging is generally divided into several levels. In industry, it usually uses 70 degrees Celsius for 70 hours. The temperature is divided into several levels, typically including 70 degrees Celsius, 100 degrees Celsius, 125 degrees Celsius, etc. The testing time is always 70 hours.

耐老化测试

The second test for tensile strength is quite straightforward. It involves determining the maximum tensile force that a material can withstand within a unit area without breaking. This test is usually conducted on a tensile testing machine.

拉力测试

The third extension performance test refers to what we commonly call the elongation at break. It is the percentage of the maximum elongation of the material compared to the original length of the material under normal temperature conditions. The fourth tear resistance performance test is similar to the tensile test, except that the direction of force applied during the test is different, in a fan-shaped direction.

The fifth hardness test is the most fundamental and relatively simple test for silicone rubber products. We usually make the material into a hardness block with a thickness of 10mm and measure it manually using a hardness tester. Of course, there are many other tests for silicone rubber products, such as wear resistance test, oil resistance test, acetic acid test, etc. These tests are quite common in the silicone rubber industry. Additionally, the testing standards in different regions may vary. The above information is for reference only.
