Silica gel：molecular formula mSiO₂·H₂O
A glassy or translucent coarse granule with a specific surface area exceeding 450 m²/g, it is a highly active, regenerable material featuring a microporous structure and high thermal stability. It exhibits strong adsorption capacity for both liquid and gaseous substances. Slightly softer than glass in hardness, it is insoluble in all chemical solvents except hydrofluoric acid and strong alkalis.
Silicone rubber:It is a linear polymer elastomer formed by the polymerization of dimethylsiloxane and other organic silicon monomers, and is abbreviated as SIR. The main chain of the macromolecule is mainly composed of Si-O units, with monovalent organic groups as side groups. Its general structural formula is shown in the figure. In the formula, R, R', R" are organic groups such as methyl, vinyl, phenyl, trifluoropropyl, etc., and m, n are the degree of polymerization, which varies within a wide range and are integers.
