Once a product is designed, we cannot be 100% certain whether this structure can meet the design requirements, such as the sealing performance of rubber products, whether the mold can be easily demolded during production, the shrinkage rate of the product, etc. Moreover, most of our silicone rubber products are not a single product but need to be assembled with plastic parts or hardware components to form a complete product. Especially for some appearance parts, high precision is required. All these need to be verified by making sample molds. Timely detection of potential problems that may affect the subsequent mass production is necessary. To solve these problems, we usually carry out mold modification or repair. If we modify the mold after starting mass production, the cost will be very high. In severe cases, it may even lead to the need to remake the mold, which will be a great loss for the manufacturer or our customers.
The second market demands that we launch a new product. However, there is no guarantee that it will be a huge success. We are not sure if consumers will like it. Therefore, we need to first release a small batch of the product in the market using prototype models to verify the market response. If the results are good, we will then start mass production using the production model for large-scale production. Instead of producing a large quantity and then finding that it cannot be sold, which would lead to inventory buildup and waste.
In summary, the purpose of making the sample mold is to reduce the risk of mold production, identify problems in advance, and further optimize the production process to reduce unnecessary waste. The production process of our sample mold is the same as that of the mass production mold, except that the number of mold cavities is reduced. Usually, there is only one cavity.
